Special Place In Our Hearts

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my sister referred me to Dr. Rohatgi. She praised him, and I knew I would like him so I didn't think twice about it. Little did I know that after the birth of my daughter I would soon love him. You see, my daughter was born with a heart murmur. On my daughter’s birth day, Dr. Rohatgi came to the hospital to examine her late that evening instead of the next morning, reassuring me that many babies are born with murmurs and it is probably "innocent" but suggested a pediatric cardiologist be called. Dr. Rohatgi contacted Dr. Goel, a pediatric cardiologist, and it was determined that my daughter had three heart defects (CoA, VSD & AS) and required open heart surgery immediately. She had her first surgery at a very young nine days old. After my daughter was released from the hospital and we scheduled her first visit to Dr. Rohatgi's office I remember him saying "I'm sorry I said it was an innocent murmur." Dr. Rohatgi is an awesome pediatrician and he is not a cardiologist. I was not upset that he called it innocent. In fact, I began to realize the care that he has in his heart and then realized that my daughter is alive because of Dr. Rohatgi's quick visit and quick call to a cardiologist, leading to a quick surgery and a quick repair. I love that about Dr. Rohatgi. He does not take chances and for a mother of a child with a heart condition, it is something I do not take for granted. My daughter is four years old and Dr. Rohatgi has mentioned to me several times that he called it an innocent murmur and says he remembers the day. Each time he reminisces with us in his office, I respect him even more. He is a doctor that does not take chances; he wants our kids healthy, and while doing that, he becomes a special person in our hearts. My daughter LOVES him and talks about him often. She isn't afraid of her visits to his office because she knows that he would never hurt her and she feels the care and compassion that he brings into the examining room. Dr. Rohatgi is an awesome doctor and we refer him to every person we get a chance to.
