Right Before Christmas

Right before Christmas my son had to be admitted for pneumonia. He was only 17 months old so having to endure oxygen tubes in his nose and an IV in his arm was very difficult. The doctors, nurses and volunteers made the stay much more bearable. Since it was Christmas my son was able to see Santa Claus at the hospital when the Creve Coeur police brought him around. He even had a few presents to open. He also loved the volunteer that came around with the crafts.  Even though he was small and didn't really know what he was doing, she managed to make the craft easy enough for him to do and he had a ball. He loved "walking" the therapy dog Norman that visited and being escorted around the halls in a wagon. The wagon was a lifesaver. Since he didn't want to stay in the room, that was the only way we could walk the halls with an IV pole. We left on Christmas Eve day and he was able to see Santa one more time before he left. My daughter was there that day to help pick him up and they were kind enough to include her. Even though this was a fairly stressful situation, I can look back through all the pictures we took and see the good things that made it bearable.
