Precious Boy
My son Zachary was born in November 2007. At five weeks old, he was hospitalized for failure to thrive. Our pediatrician sent us straight to St. John's Mercy. We discovered he had reflux, a broken collar bone (from birth but it healed), was severely dehydrated and what we thought was a rare infant leukemia, JMML. Our little guy was sick and our hearts were broken. Zachary was put on a feeding tube and a bone marrow test was done, along with many other tests. Not only did the incredible staff take care of my little guy, they took care of the rest of my family. We spent two weeks at SJMMC and the staff met all of my needs as a worried mother and tended to my precious boy. Dr. Rob Hanson, Dr. Bob Bergamini and everyone else were wonderful. My son has the JMML gene but thankfully, the JMML did not become full blown. Zachary has a genetic disorder called Noonan Syndrome. Everyone at SJMMC treated us so wonderfully and without them, I am not sure if we would have been able to celebrate all the wonderful events that we have with Zachary! Thank you to everyone at SJMMC for not only helping my son but also for helping me during such a rough time. The PICU staff, oncology staff, volunteers and EVERYONE there ... you are the best of the best and my family thanks you!
