Amazing Level of Service

My 8 week old son had been battling a nasty cold for 4 days when our pediatrician sent us to the emergency room. St. John\'s Mercy was an easy choice because we delivered him there, which was a wonderful experience. This visit confirmed all the good things we remembered from his birth. They were quick, efficient, gentle and kind. And that was all in the first 30 minutes! Starting with the ER pediatrician and nurses, we had an incredible experience. It only improved as they decided to admit us. They took the time to explain exactly what was wrong with my son and what procedures they were performing. More im portantly, they took the time to console a terrified mother. They understood that because he is our first child, we were really emotionally unprepared for the experience and they took extra time to walk us through all the little details. As I watched my newborn suffering, I took so much comfort in seeing the passion the staff was putting into caring for him. In an environment that is surely chaotic and stressful, the nurses and doctors on the pediatric ward were always calm and unhurried. I felt as if he was the only patient to whom they were attending. Impressively, every single person that came into our room, including housekeeping, made sure my husband and I were also OK before he or she left. They thought of all the little things we could need from toothbrushes to midnight snacks. We've been home for 2 weeks, and I still couldn't say enough to every person I run into about their amazing level of service. What has stuck with me the most about the entire experien ce is the sincere and genuine care we all received as a family. There is no other hospital I would want to take my child - no matter his age. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the staff at St. John's Mercy Children's Hospital!
